Not all stones are bling
Meet Gypsy, our beautiful Bichon friend with a matching beautiful smile.
Not all stones are bling
Not long ago, our little friend was feeling very uncomfortable. She was having urinary tract infections that wouldn't clear up. Her demeanor was just not right. After courses of antibiotics and in-house sediment and urinalysis testing, her urine was sent off to the lab for a culture and sensitivity. She still had a urine issue, even after antibiotics.
We then took an x-ray of her bladder and found some radiopaque objects that required further investigation. An abdominal ultrasound was the next step. There were some clear visuals of sediment and a thickened bladder wall. A diagnosis of stones in Gypsy's bladder. Not all stones are bling.
This required some major surgery, and a cystotomy was performed by Dr Riian Lee and Dr Meredith Begg, a few days later.
We are happy to report that our fluffy little Gypsy recovered well. She is not out of the woods. A special diet is needed to keep the crystals from reforming. She will require regular urine testing every few months and an ultrasound every 6 months, just to make sure she is continuing to maintain a healthy bladder.
It’s important to notice any change in demeanor and habits with your pets. A small difference in behavior can often indicate that something is not quite right. We are here to help your furry family and strive to offer the best care we can, to make sure they live a happy and healthy life.
